Bestway High filter pressure

Hi! I also have a Bestway pool. We just finally got it filled and backwashed and rinsed the filter. Once we started filtering, the pressure was also high ( around 9 psi). I don’t have a solar heater. Anyone know why the pressure is so high? I have a suspicion my output flow is low. I put my hand in front and can’t feel a stream of water at all. How do you know if your flow is low? What’s it supposed to feel like? Anyone know how I can fix this? I feel like my pump isn’t filtering right. Thanks!

Hello and welcome! Let's gather a bit more info to help:
- Is the 9 psi while on high or low speed?
- How is the return jet pressure if you place the multiport valve to recirculate versus filter? Any changes?
- The pressure increase you are referring to is immediately after filling correct? Clear water?
- How long did you backwash, then how long did you rinse afterwards?
- When you turn the system off, does the psi gauge needle go back to zero?

Let's start there and see what we can do to help.

Hi! Thanks for replying!
There is only 1 speed on this pump so it seems to fluctuate between 9 and 9.5 psi.
i tried it in both filter and recirculating and it feels about the same. Yess immediately after filling. Totally clear Hose water. Backwashed for 5 and rinsed for around 2 min. When turned off the needle goes around 1 psi.
Thanks!

As a 1-speed, that psi may be normal since it's already on a higher speed. But you should have a reasonable about of water return pressure. I'm assuming the pump basket (clear lid) is full of water? You mentioned you have no heater. Are there any valves or other products installed after the filter that could possibly impact (restrict) water flow? Since water flow was the same in both filter and circulation modes, it would seem to rule-out anything inside the filter as a contributing factor.

IT should be full of water at all times when running. If it's not, you probably have a suction side air leak. With that new set-up, did you apply some silicone pool lube to the O-ring under that clear lid? Also check to see if there's a drain plug near the bottom of that pump basket. It should be sealed nicely too - either Teflon tape on the threads or some lube on a gasket. From there, look along the line going back to the poolside skimmer. Assuming the water level is high enough in the skimmer mouth to suck water and not air, check any lines/hoses above ground for signs of air entry. They can be extremely tiny, and finding a suction side air leak can be tricky. Everything is new so you should be okay, but check any connections for possible trouble areas.
