Hello!

I've read all the articles about closing a pool, but they don't seem to apply to my situation. I have a SWG in-ground pool and I don't have a cover. My wife keeps telling me to dump in algaecide and copper, turn off the SWG generator, let the CL drop until zero, and run pump minimally for three months. This doesn't sound right to me.

Presently, I've been running the pump with chlorinator at "medium" for only 2 hours a night so I can drop my high levels of 10 down to a balanced level of 6 as per CYA charts. But after I re-calibrate the pool chemistry this weekend, I'm unclear what I should do for now until about September when I open things up again.

Please keep in mind we have relatively high electricity prices, so it can be cheaper to let the chemistry go sour and spend a couple hundred later to rebalance.

Not sure if you winterize and blow out all the lines as not sure of winter temps you have. You would maintain the water till the temps drop below 60°F and close with the FC at slam level. I don't use polyquat or anything else and open to clear water.

Daytime temps are about 60F now and won't really drop more than 55F. Night can be as low as 48F.

I'll re-balance, SLAM, and stop the SWG this weekend, and run the pump 3 hours a day.

I'm not keen on algaecide given the cost, so I'll skip that.

Thanks for the tip and let's see how I go this year.
