Best flow through a diverter valve

What is the best way to install pool/spa diverter valve in the suction side manifold? I try to optimize the water flow for the pool and I don't care about the spa. Anyway 99.99% of the time the pump runs in the pool circuit.

Would it make sense to make pool circuit run through the diverter from left to right (if you see it as a T), and have the spa enter from the bottom? This way there would not be a 90 degree turn for the pool water flow.

There's going to be some twists and turns no matter how you install it. The inside of a Jandy is sort-of triangular. Even running straight through, the point of the actual block will stick out into the water flow.

Simpler is better. The bottom of the T goes to the pump and then the balance is intuitive.
