Hi just stumbled across this forum after having issues with algae for about 3 years after buying a house with a pool. I've been following the advice of one of the local pool store.

So far I have have only been able to keep the pool clear for a month 😤. Despite brushing vacuuming and pouring 1000s of dollars worth of chemicals in the pool.

My pool hasn't been clear since last July. Starting my first slam today.

I’m not sure your issue is the same as ours, but we struggled with this when we bought our house as well. Ultimately, we had to have the pool drained, cleaned, and refilled. I think that is part of the reason we’re looking better this year. No algae, yet!

Welcome to the forum!

I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool
Thanks for the welcome. I have been reading them I found the site Sunday. Learned more in 3 days then I have in three years. The fun thing is I keep most of my printouts from the store and the cya was never over 5 and when I tested it it was 0 so I'm wandering if that is my issue. They kept telling me not to worry about it.

Might try that if a slam doesn't work

Welcome @narlwill to TFP! Eradicating algae is how you found TFP, let’s make sure you get rid of it and keep your pool algae free.

First thing you need is one of the recommended test kits. Either the TF-Pro from tftestkits.net or the K-2006C from Amazon. The TFP way relies on accurate testing of your pool water and pool store have been shown they are not accurate.

Once you get your test kit, post up a full set of results like this:
FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA

Those pool water test results are needed to determine what your pool requires. When you get one of the kits, post your results in one of the Water Chemistry sub forums and TFPers will be all over the thread to offer help.
