I have seen a couple times now where Barium Sulfate has coated Cell blades in less than 3 months. Two locations, one in Indiana and one in Illinois. Has anyone seen this problem? Does anyone know if a water softener will remove Barium from water as it does with calcium? Is there anyway to remove sulfates from water without water exchange?

Sulfates can only be removed by RO or some very expensive anionic exchange resins. Barium could be removed by normal cationic exchange resins but due to its much larger ionic radius than calcium or magnesium, it’s probably very inefficient. Most barium salts are completely insoluble in water with the exception of barium chloride.
