Backwash (Intex 18x52)

I just installed my pump and was following all the instructions just fine until I got to backwash.
The step prior to backwash it says to open the valves (the two for the hoses going to the pool) and let the water get rid off all the air.
Then when it says you see the air gone (which I did) to close the valves to finger tight, so I did.

The next part is to do the backwash and I am following the instructions but it never says to open either valve before doing the backwash.

Doesn't one or both of the valves need to be open to do the backwash so it can actually get water?
I can't believe they tell you to close them then the very next step is to backwash and they don't say anything about opening them back up, so I wanted to clarify before I did anything.
Thank you.

I think they are referring to the air bleedoff valves on your pump and filter itself to close once the air has been purged from the pump and filter. Dont think they mean the actual valves between pool and pump filter system. Those intex pumps have several air bleedoff valves and drain valves on them. The valves going to and from pool should be open, and close the air valves on the pump and filter themselves and then finish doing the setup backwash process.

You are correct, I was totally looking at the wrong thing, not it makes total sense.

I did the steps and there is a nickel size air bubble at the top of the pre filter, but it didn't seem to hurt anything when I did the backwash and rinse.
Thank you for the help.
