AZ Dust Storms

My pool after a dust storm gets extremely covered in dust on the floor. If I vacuum, it just keeps coming back from some being pushed around. After storms last week I battled a cloudy pool and high alkalinity levels. Got it all taken care of and back to beautiful clean pool this weekend.

Having another dust storm tonight. Honestly looking to see what others do in Arizona to deal with this.

It seems it takes me days to get the dust completely gone after multiple vacuums manually and the suction pool vac going
 
My new Dolphin S300 cleans it up in one run. You wouldn’t believe the brown mud that rinses out of the filter after a quick clean up.

Honestly, the way I deal with it is. I kill the pump when I know one is coming. Then the next day I’ll brush the walls, benches, etc, scoop out any debris and fire it back up. I have a suction side port, so I just let “Curious George” wander around and do his job.
It is getting annoying with these back to back dust storms. :grrrr:
 
Agreed. The dust storms certainly add some to the pool maintenance here in AZ.

Typically the next day after a dust storm, I clean out the skimmer baskets and pump basket and skim the surface if needed. Usually "Rita" (my Hayward AquaNaut (Phoenix) 400 In-wall Suction Cleaner) does a great job at getting all of the dirt off the pool floor and about 2 feet up the wall.

If it's really bad, I get my pool vacuum head and connect it to Rita's hose and vacuum the pool floor and walls manually. Then I vacuum the IG spa. After the vacuum, I do a good brush on all of the surfaces including the tile.

Then I check the pool chemistry and make any adjustments as required.
Usually I wait a day and then check the pressure on the filter. If it's getting up around 10 psi above normal, I do a backwash.

This is my "after a haboob" pool cleaning routine and works very well for me.

Forgot to mention, there have been a few times that I have had to rescue the deck loungers from their inadvertent swim :D
 
I honestly do just that. I have a kreepy krauly connected to suction side port and it doesn’t do great with dust. Honestly guess I need a robot or a better suction side.

I can do all of it and come back out a few hours later and then there’s more. My filters get absolutely covered

Only thing that helped but mine somewhat melted last year while outside the pool was a leaf canister with a skimmer sock around the basket and another skimmer sock in the skimmer basket as well. Need to order more and maybe another canister to stop some getting to the filter a bit

It needs to stop haha. I cringe everting I get a warning.

I have a free form pool and it just would be hard to catch it in time to cover it. It’s usually while I’m on my way home from work except the last 2 times

I’ve been running my pool since 6 pm yesterday. Cleaned the filters before turning it on


It’s slightly clearer. I think I need some muriatic acid the ph is probably a bit higher again after last night. Dust is on the pool walls afraid to brush it to make it cloudy again.

Maybe I’ll just manual vacuum the floor very slowly but clean the filters again before. They literally become brown
 
Nah just brush it. That’s what I do, it stirs it into the water and let the filter do it’s job.

My PH was up yesterday as well, dumped in some MA to bring it down to 7.4. It was up to 7.6 this morning, so I’m back on track.

Wish I could say the same. My chlorine. Ph and levels are all where they always are. Not really sure what else to do
