I bought a new auto-fill a couple years ago. I thought it was the best because the adjustment mechanism is completely solid and its all metal. However, a couple months ago my water bill was double and discovered the auto-fill was constantly leaking at the level I normally keep my pool at. Adjusting the water level lower, it's no longer leaking but I want to replace it before it leaks again. Can anyone provide a recommendation with what I should replace this with?

My pool has this one -

CMP Custom Molded 3-8in. Water Leveler Float Valve - Thermoplastic 25504-000-100

Amazon.com

It’s all polymer and it has worked flawlessly for over 12 years now. You might think that “all metal” means better but, in the context of pool water service, that’s not a plus. Pool water is highly mineralized, has varying pH and contains a fairly powerful oxidizer that reacts with lots of metals. Believe it or not, the nylon and thermoplastic polymer parts will last longer.
