Hi there,

Like many of the similar threads I am a new owner to this pool. I assume this equipment is several years old and the previous owner claims to have had no issues ;). When I fired up the SWG I was getting several error codes (FWIW they were 172, 173, 186, 187, 188). I followed the troubleshooting guide and 1) cleaned the sensor and 2) rewired the unit to match the existing 120V input per the manual (from the factory 240V internal wiring). With this change everything lit up and was error free for about 10 mins. Is it possible that this unit worked previously if it was incorrectly wired?

I am now getting error codes 120 in the forward direction and 121 in the reverse direction. To troubleshoot these I have 1) increased the salt content to 2900 (I know this is a bit low but the add salt light is not on), 2) cleaned the cell with acid, and 3) inspected the DC cord. The error codes persist.

I have now run through the various test points as follows:

Back board
1-8: 77.7 VAC (should be 75 - OK)
2-7: 69 VAC (should be 65 - OK)
3-5: 20.9 VAC (should 21 - OK)
Cell test points: 36.7 VDC (should be 22 to 28 - ISSUE)
Voltage at cell: 36.7 VDC (should be 22 to 28 - ISSUE)

Front board
A-C: 20.8 (should be 21 VAC - OK)
K-H: 0.04 (should be 120 mVDC - ISSUE)

Using the test buttons:
Salinity+R-Temp+Salinity: 2.7 (should be 2.8 gpl - OK)
Salinity+R-Temp+Temperature: 74 (should be 75 degF - OK)
H-Temp+Salinity+Chlorine-Down: 91 (should be 91 degF)

So, based on this info, am I identifying the right issues and therefore do I need to replace "the cell and DC cord" only? Or are there issues with the boards as well?

Appreciate the help!

 Welcome to TFP!!!

At this point I think you might be the more knowledgeable about the AquaPure system than just about anyone on this forum.
So, I think you are unlikely to find much help with this very specific equipment problem and probably need to contact the manufacturer.

TFP is mostly focused on helping pool owners maintain their pools through proper chemistry, although we do tend to dabble outside of that ;)

How are you testing your pool and maintaining it while the SWG is down?

Those test results say the cell needs to be replaced.

Look for a cell that includes the power cord and the new tri-sensor with a plastic box built into the cable. Save the old sensor as it seems it is still working.

Thanks all for your comments! I hadn't considered contacting Jandy. They advised that the control board(s) are bad due to the low voltage from K-H and the high voltage going to the cell. They also advised that my cell is 12 years old although with a faulty board it's not clear if the cell is bad.

So rather than troubleshooting and replacing this system part by part I am considering a new system - either a Pentair IC40 or a Hayward AQR15. Based on expected life and ability to replace the cell without replacing the controls, would you say that the Hayward is preferred?

My pump is nearing end of life. I'm sure this should play into my choice, something I need to research.

In the meantime, I'm adding 10 L of liquid chlorine every 5-7 days. ;)

Make sure you look for the warranty terms. Self installs on Pentair products only come with a 60 day warranty here in the US.

Either system should be fine, but I prefer Hayward due to the longer warranty, cheaper cell replacement costs, and easier they are much easier to troubleshoot.
