Anyone ever make their own standalone pump/filter station for cleanup?

Recently had a stamped concrete patio put in, and between that and demolition of the old patio theres still a lot of smaller rocks and concrete dust and dirt on the bottom of my pool. I don't have a bypass on my cartridge filter to allow me to bypass it and vacuum to waste, and don't want to filter all the crud through there if I vacuumed. I could remove the cartridges and vacuum to waste on the other side of the cartridge filter. But concerned that fine dust/dirt/concrete will be passing through my pump.

So idea is to make a standalone filter station that I can vacuum with. Details;
  • It would use a cheap pump probably off Amazon
  • It would sit poolside
  • It would have a PVC intake into the water
  • The outflow would go into a rubbermaid type container with filter material (pillow filling?)
  • The container would have a pvc pipe going back into the pool
It would also be helpful during fall cleanup after the trees dump all their leaves.

Has anyone done this?

That's really interesting, never thought of mounting a 3 way like that. I have the room to do it. Also happen to have one of those leaf cleaners from my cleaner.

Do you have the 3 way attached with a union, or threaded fitting?

Thanks for the ideas!
