Aluminum coping separating from concrete decking

Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum but it seemed like the best place on the internet to come for pool advice.

I’m wondering what the best way to repair and fill in this gap between the aluminum coping and concrete pool deck. The concrete was slipping away from the pool but has been leveled however this gap remains. Pictures attached.

I can only tell you what I would probably do myself. I would fill with sand maybe 1/4 of the way up the coping to make sure you do not have any voids under the concrete then use a flow-able grout/concrete to fill the remainder of the coping. If you don't mind me asking, how did you re-level the concrete? I have some areas that have dropped and need to be leveled.

Well, I’ll be honest, my husband and I tried a bit of a risky hair-brained scheme that worked. After searching the internet I came across a YouTube video of how to level concrete using a jacking /clamping system, you then fill the gap underneath with high-density foamular. It worked! We saved a good chunk of change doing it ourselves. I’ll attach some pictures.

Thanks! Those pictures are better but the video link is not working for me. I think I about going to give this a shot myself. If it doesnt work out, it's ok as I plan to cover with pavers in a few years anyway. Would just be nice to have a level base around the pool to work with.

Try typing in on YouTube: “Slab raising, do it yourself” that’s the name of the video

I can’t tell what is a before or after photo?

I don’t think concrete slipped away, the coping hardware sheered. Look where the straight coping meets the radius, I hope that’s your before photo.

The pictures in the first post are after and the other picture is during. The coping becoming disconnected was what prompted us to try and fix the situation. It didn’t break at that point but the clip that puts two pieces together came undone due to the concrete slipping away.

also do you have any tips on filling in the gap mentioned in the first post?
