My wife has constant year-round allergies. It seems like she has attacks that come in waves and then subside and then it happens again, but they are always bothering her. Been to many doctors ,been tested. Nobody can find anything that she’s allergic to. seem like it happened after she got over Covid, she is miserable. I don’t know how to help her. every medicine prescription or over-the-counter hasn’t worked to relieve her symptoms. If anyone has any advice on how I can help her, I would appreciate it.

What are her symptoms?

There are doctors and clinics now studying Long Covid. Has she been in contact with them?

No contact. I’ve heard that term long covid, maybe that’s something I should look into although I don’t know what they would do to help her.

I’m sorry I did not give a complete reply. Her symptoms are runny nose, but the main symptoms are allergies of the eyes, red irritated gunky eyes. When your eyes are bothering you that bad it just wears you out.

Has she gone to an eye specialist?

My experience is it sometimes takes going to a few doctors to find one that knows the correct treatment. Your average local doctor does not see or have experience with rare problems.

Eyes, nose throat are all connected in the body. That is why there are ENT specialists.

My non-medical though is she has some type of recurring eye infection and not an allergy.

That's where I'm at. It flares up in the spring and fall most often but if the couch poofs just enough dust and dander in the winter I can be messed up for a day or two then also.

I had 3 rounds starting from scratch with new allergists and ENTs. All 3 the tine tests didn't show anything significant and the blood tests showed mild pet, dust and mold allergies.

Daily Clariten and Singular keep me dry most of the time but still plugged from inflammation.

I did weekly allergy shots for a year and barely saw a difference. Last fall I had my sinuses roto rootered and while they got alot of pollups it didn't help the inflammation at all.

I wish your Mrs the best of luck, I've been at it for 6+ years with breaks in between attempts from frustration of little progress. The allergists and ENTs both agree I have issues but neither thinks their specialty is causing the bulk of my issue.

Look at your diet. Do the Whole 30 elimination diet.

I used to have allergies until I cut certain foods from my diet. They can be triggers for your bodies reaction to outside environments.

Every person is different with their own unique body chemistry. Common food triggers are gluten, eggs, dairy. But it is more complex than that with certain ingredients prepared in certain ways. So it can take years of observation to understand the cause and effect on your body.

I had a Doc in NY who specialized in this and he recently retired. I have a dozen friends and family who went to him and each said he changed their lives for the better.

I had a co-worker that has ben waylaid by long-covid. It has been no joke for him and his family.

I live with allergies to mold and pollens, mostly cedar and oak. I do a Claritan-D 24 every morning, a good shot of Flonase up each nostril before I go outside, and weekly allergy shots. These have proven to be critical for me. If I allow my allergies to overload during a pollen outbreak, then my eyes will lose tracking and I will get double vision due to ocular Myasthenia Gravis. Depending on the severity it can last for several months and require high doses of steroids to reverse.

My best friend for many years was my physician and allergist. One of the things I learned is allergies are a dark art in medicine. Not all physicians understand allergies, how to recognize them, and how to treat them. Them you get into all the available treatment options and their efficacy. And there are some things being offered that aren't legitimately treatments in my opinion. Allergies are one of those medical conditions where you don't stop searching until you find a solution that works for you. When my friend retired I had to find another physician that had the magic shots.
