I am new to this. I have had Intex above ground pool 16 by 32 for four years.
This is my 3rd algae incident. The first time I relied on the pool expert to guide me. I did what he told me, and poured muriatic acid in the pool and then the next day had to add many pounds of baking soda. It worked.
The second time, I tried the muriatic acid but it didn’t work so I relied on another so called expert and he did the flocculant. Dropped it to the bottom. He vacuued out
once . That was last year at the end of the season. He closed with the pool being filthy. I must say that is the first time the pool was not clean when closed for the winter. It hasn’t been right since, continued green stuff on bottom. So called expert told me it was dead algae.
I started researching and here I am. No longer relying on the so called experts and unreliable strips. The strips told me I had no stabilizer in the pool. I added stabilizer and now it is at 100. I am draining my water. I am wondering, how much do I drain. The algae continues to flourish. I am trying g to get ready for a slam when I get a reliable test kit on Monday. Not sure what I am looking for but support guidance. This pool is so important to me and it’s really sad to see it so green and knowing it’s going to stay that way for awhile.
I have worked hard not necessarily smart at keepingMy pool clean. I brush just about daily, vacuum with a robot daily and Make sure It had chlorine tabs in it at all times (except when I had Covid and didn’t do anything for a week). Yup that was the first algae breakout.
Feeling lost and hopeless, and just maybe this site can help take the green out of my life.

Welcome to TFP! All is not lost. Please add the particulars of your pool and the filter system to your signature so we know what you have. At this point you will want to add 5 ppm of liquid chlorine (probably 1/2 gallon) to the pool daily which can be dispersed by your filter system. If the filter isn't running then it can be spread by brushing the pool. After you get your test kit, which you didn't say which it is, then you need to post the full array of readings that you get so we know how you can beat this for good. Keeping algae out will require diligence with the test kit and the chemicals. You should get it to where all you need is liquid chlorine from Walmart and some muriatic acid to control the PH. We will keep you away from the pool stores and the pool services.

Welcome to TFP!

I ordered TF kit and read articles while I waited for kit to arrive. It took just 3 days to ship and it arrived today.
I have a question regarding the kit. I do not have a clear tube marked cya view tube with a black dot on bottom. I do have a clear bottle with white cap with ml marks ranging from 5 to 25. Does this sound like the correct bottle and if so can I make a dot with magic marker on bottom outside or am I missing overlooking something?

Sounds like you're missing something. Which kit did you order? I'm not sure what the comparator looks like on all kits. Could it possibly be on one of the two sides of a Taylor comparator?

@Sarah and Nate should be able to help.

I looked on the side you suggested and I did overlook it. It is so small and see through I just didn’t see it.
Thanks for help. Sorry it took so long to let you know.
