Algae Prevention

I just saw a short video on YouTube recently indicating that a “trick” to prevent algae is to place a short (3”) piece of copper tubing in the skimmer baskets. I know some algaecides have copper in them. Does this advice make any sense? Just wondering…

We cringed here at TFP last summer when that gimmick was first going around. Please don't. You don't want that copper in your water.
