Howdy,

I have a new pool that I've begun to learn about the maintenance involved to keep everything looking good. I have some past experience with helping my dad maintain the pool when I was a kid but never had to do a whole lot more than brushing and skimming. I pulled my DE filter apart and did a full cleaning so I would have my baseline pressure. I decided to get the Aladdin EZ DE Scoop (the blue one) while I was at Leslie's to make it easy to know how much to use.

Honestly I'm frustrated with that scoop lol. On Amazon it says it's the exact same volume as a 1 pound coffee can. Other places online say a full scoop is 1/2 pound of DE. The guy at Leslie's said 1 scoop was 1 pound of DE. I used a scale to weigh the thing with a packed scoop. After taring the scoop itself, I get a fully packed scoop at 12oz weight.

My filter calls for 6 pounds of DE so I did 8 scoops at 12oz each for 6 pounds. This seems right to me. What's the deal with this scoop?

Welcome @dstana! Glad you've found the forum!

First things, can you add your pool, equipment & test kit info to your signature? Please and thanks! It helps anyone who responds to give you "personalized" info.

Secondly, did you try settling the DE in the scoop by gently tapping it? (I have no personal DE experience, but it sounds like something that could occur when measuring flour for cooking/baking)

Hey there dstana, check this out - I went to pool store today and saw a rather large DE scoop on corner when cashing out. I had to ask because all I have read Is always different, “does that scoop hold 1lb or 1/2lb of DE”? The clerk said one pound, so after I got back home I dug out my DE power and scoop noticing my scoop was quit a bit smaller. So after searching for our kitchen scale I did a measurement minus tare weight for my scoop. (Smaller one I bought on line) it weighed 11.4 - My filter requires 4lbs so I’m going with 5 1/2 scoops. Just thought I would share my findings. Your scoop may be a tab bit heavier then mine but you should be on the money? Looks like all scoops are different and one should use a scale.
