Air in lines

When I started my pool up this year I am getting a lot of bubbles coming out of the jets. I bled it when I primed it and have bled it since then. If I run the pump long enough it is getting enough air in the system again that the jets are hardly pushing any water out. Then when I shut the pump off, water/air is bubbling out of the skimmer lid. Any help is much appreciated!

That could be key right there. Inspect the O-ring under the clear lid and ensure it has a generous coating of pool silicone lube, not petroleum jelly. See if that helps. Welcome to TFP!

Oops, wait, you said the skimmer lid? If it's the poolside skimmer, check to ensure the weir door flap is operating properly and that the water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening. You might also check for a possible blockage by pushing water backwards from the pump inlet backward to the skimmer. Maybe something got stuck in there.

Yes the skimmer lid. Weir door isn't jammed up and water level is good. How would one push water backwards through the suction piping? Also, may be unrelated, but if I switch the diverter valve to include the main drain in the intake, the pump almost instantly runs out of water. This is my first pool and it came with the house, so I'm kind of teaching myself here. Thanks for your time!

Sounds like your drain is either plugged or blocked on purpose. Some drains go bad over time and were closed in the past (i.e. leak). Maybe you can confirm with the previous owners? If that's the case, you just pull all water from the skimmer which is fine. To push water backwards and check for a blockage, there are a couple options. With the pump OFF, you can insert a garden hose into the pump inlet, maybe wrap a rag around the hose to try and make a seal, and turn on the hose to push water backwards to the skimmer. Or, you can purchase a pressure bladder like a Drain King or the one shown below.

Sorry guys. I have been busy the last few weeks and haven't gotten back on here. So I checked all the connections for leaks. None that I found. Replaced and lubed the o-rings on the pump drain plug, the sand filter drain plug, and the pump basket lid. I tried the drain king trick from both ends of the skimmer pipe and can't get any water from one end to the other. So it appears it is blocked. Any tips or tricks? I'm on a well that only makes 50 psi and I don't think it's enough to flush out whatever is in there.
