Aiper Seagull Pro Review

Happy day! Received a new Seagull Pro AND my repaired Betta2! New motors and props on the Betta, charging the Aiper. Looks and feels well built. Heavier than my Aquabot (by 2.2#). Basket is nicer (top comes off rather than hinged), fine mesh looks easy to hose off. Hopefully the dial for floor/walls/both/off is well sealed, would have liked to see touch buttons. More feedback later once first run is complete.

Does it map the pool for cleaning or is the cleaning path totally random ? Does it have a "go home" feature before the battery on it runs out or does it just stop wherever it stops.?

It says it maps but that is questionable. When the battery dies it park's itself at the edge of a wall

Yeah, I really doubt it will map my pool (kidney with big radii from floor to walls), though picture in instructions shows mapping. I just hope it hits 95% of the surface.

Edit: At the 1.75 hour mark it started the walls (about same time led turned from blue to "yellow"). It does seem to map the walls very well. Goes up to waterline, scrubs, back down same track, moves over about 8", repeats. It's at 2 hours right now, about 25% around the walls. Does a much better job on walls than my Aquabot. The floor seemed like it was trying to map, but with big contours, it throws it off into random directions.

Got stuck on one drain once. My Aquabot has never. Once I pull the Aiper out, I'm going to see what the ground clearance is of each to see if that's the reason. More later.

Edit2: looks like it lasted about 2.75 hours. Not enough time to make it around the perimeter doing floor and walls. Probably best to do a run for each rather than both. Once led turned red you don't have more than 10 or 15 minutes. Jets and anything else protruding knock it off course a bit (doesn't got waterline at a jet). So it did the floor and maybe 60% of the walls in a 2 hours 45 minute cycle. I had run my Aquabot yesterday, Aiper got a lot more stuff today. Will do a basket picture when the sun comes out tomorrow. Could be a keeper!

I observed the same today leading me to think there may be some type of attempted mapping going on. It sat in the same spot for what seemed like an eternity. It spun about 45° at a time sat for @30 seconds then spin the sot then spin. It then proceeded to go again.

Ground clearance is 3/4", so no reason it should get stuck on drain, unless drain suction is holding it down (or my drain is taller than I thought). Looking at my Aquabot, it has almost no ground clearance, but doesn't get stuck because roller brush is in the middle. And this thing does spin a lot. It is intelligent since it spins 180, 360, and when doing walls just the right angle to move it over 8-12" on each pass, compensating for pool slope. It seems to go up and down walls exactly vertically. As far as basket, probably not as fine as my Aquabot, but it's fairly fine. Attached is collection a day after running Aquabot. It's much easier to clean! Overall works much better than the Aiper Elite.

1st: 2 hrs 45 m to stop at wall
2nd charge: 1 hour 8 m to solid green

One more. Doesn't like steps, especially at a corner. Took 1.5 hours to work its way around entire perimeter on wall mode. I started it at this corner at the wall. It worked its way around clockwise. Once it got to the steps, it stops in a vertical position not able to climb the step. Backs up after 30-60 seconds, moves over, gets stuck 12" over, until it reached this corner. Then just keeps repeating at the corner since when it backs up the wall knocks it in a direction that prevents it from getting out of the corner. Not a big deal as long as you know where to start it. This is only an issue with a kidney or odd corner. Nudged it, made it 2 rounds on second charge. The manual mentions a finer filter, hope to see it for sale soon.

Well, 3rd charge is not a charm. Beeping about every second or two, no lights (other than red one on charger). No clue. I pulled it out before it finished its cycle and turned it off, made sure connector was dry. Just faint beeping. Will contact Aiper tomorrow.

So, I had a similar occurrence this am. Put it in the pool on wall only. Took it out upon completion and put on charger, beeps and red light. Turns out I just did not turn the selector back to off mode :cautious:.

Ahultin how has your cleaning been? Are you overall happy? That knob looks pretty scratched up. Did it accidentally get flipped over? Curious about quality of build as much as anything. Thanks for any input!

So far so good.
My pool is less than an ideal use case as it is freeform with a grotto, sun shelf, additional wall shelf, steep slope between deep and shallow and curved floor to wall slope.

The first couple uses I did auto mode which like @tcat seemed to do a thorough floor cleaning but died prior to completing the wall. I used it today in wall only mode and I am very pleased with the wall cleaning so I think I'll flip back and forth. I will do a wall clean one day then a floor clean a different day.

We get alot of fine dirt in the pool and this does a good job of collecting that. My youngest came over yesterday with his dogs so today's haul was WAY more dog hair than I would have anticipated especially given that I only used wall mode today.

It does get stuck on my floor drains occasionally but manages to get itself off. My floor drains are poolfittings pebble drain covers with the risers installed. I had installed the risers thinking that it would improve the floor debris suction but it really did not so I may remove the risers and I'm guessing that will prevent it from getting stuck there.

Battery life is about 2 1/2 hours which is in line with advertised. Charge time is under 2 hours but I've not watched it that close enough to get exact charge time.

Build quality I would describe as refined. I had the smorobot previously and comparatively this is better. Fit and finish is on par with what I would expect from tier 1 manufacturing and much better than i expect from chinesium. From the manual it appears that there will be spare parts available.

The scratches on the lid and selector are a result of my laziness lol. The aforementioned smorobot cleaner came with a hook that had to be attached to the pole with a bolt and nut. Instead of removing it and putting the one on that came with the seagull pro, I tried to use it.... and it doesn't quite fit. The hook for the seagull is longer and flatter where the smorobot hook is more , well hooked lol.

The seagull does not do the stairs, does not appear to get on the sunshelf and does not get on the seat in the grotto.

I paid ~780 for it shipped which included the handheld vac and so far i think that a fair value.
Longevity is "to be determined" but between the 2 yr warranty and the 2 yr extension afforded by my cc, i can live with ~200/yr

Hope that helps

That helps a lot and appreciate you taking the time to respond. My pool is basic rectangle with just one sitting ledge by a water feature and one set of "entry" steps so should not be too "hard" for the unit. I plan to run as you mentioned. Floor only or wall only. Not likely both.

Might pull the trigger tomorrow. I agree that if you get the handheld + the robot for under $800 and it lasts 4+ years and does good work its hard to argue.

Can I ask which cc did you you use to get 2 yr extension?

I am very happy with cleaning, but mine appears dead. I'm getting no lighted (except icon), no matter how is plugged. No beeps. Charged and ran fine twice. Waiting to hear from Aiper.
