AGP 18" Slope

Hi all, I am about to level the ground and install a 24' Steel Wall AGP. I had the sand delivered and I have rental for a bobcat and laser level booked. I'm fairly confident I can get the ground level, along with my father-in-law that has worked in construction. What we are trying to figure out is if we will need a retaining wall for the 18" high side or can it be tapered?

I've gone through about 10 pages of forum posts and most that I can find are around 30+" high sides, I can't find anything closer to mine.

Any opinions or information regarding this would be a huge help.

I've seen plenty of pools cut into the high side like that without a retaining wall. I think at 18" and with good grading you'll be okay. If you're really worried about the overall location and the potential for heavy rainfall rushing towards that area, a small, reasonable ridge or lip of some sort should be enough to encourage water to go around the pool to the low side.

Thank you!!! Thats what I was wanting to hear! I really appriciate it.

Hey Agrant and Welcome !!!!

Don't forget to consider uphill from the pool. Depending on how large the area is, it may be a considerable amount of runoff everytime it rains. So drainage is just as important as being level on undisturbed earth.

If it's a concern, cut the hill back further with the bobcat when you are playing to make installation of a French drain a snap once the pool is up. If the pool isn't designed to be buried, you want ZERO touching it. Earth, mulch, landscaping rocks to make the edge pretty......... zero. Anything that touches the pool / legs / bottom rails will retain moisture and accelerate the pools demise.

Thank you for the information! The deepest part I need to need into is actually just a hump in the yard it doesn’t really serve a purpose but I will definitely watch the drainage and make sure everything flows well around it.

UPDATE: Leveled the ground out today, got the entire area within an inch and will get it closer with sand. The only issue is, the highest side is about 27" though so I think I am going to have to do a retaining wall to be safe.
