advice on pool cover

Hi everyone.
Just stumbled across this site & joined.
After 5 years I reopened my pool. Installed a new liner fixed and replaced some deckboards & stained my deck.
Used to have a Merlin cover (the solid one with the straps & springs) With heavy ice build up in the winter, it ripped up some deck boards - 5/4 x 6 boards. Figured the boards werent thick enough for the anchors.Finally lost inteerest in it after 1 winter I opened the cover to find no water in the pool. Guess a hole in the liner somewhere....hence the new liner.

So anyway...up and running. Looking to porepare for closing. Need a cover idea. Dont want another safety cover that I have to install anchors. Want to preserve the deck I just fixed!

Hi, welcome to TFP! Beautiful pool and deck. I'm thinking your alternative is a standard pool cover with water bags to weigh it down. Possibly a mesh cover to let water through. Does your pool freeze solid in the winter?
 
Nice pool/deck and cover.
How low do you drain in winter? I only drain mine about 6-8 inches below the skimmer.
You might look at some inflatable pillows to keep a "dome" in the middle allowing the wind to blow the leaves on and off, and make it easy to blow it off with a leaf blower as well.

So a standard cover just lays on the water and those water bags (logs) around the edges to weigh it down?

No nvere froze inside the pool, just the water that was on the cover. The pump doesnt work below freezing.

Yes, that is how a standard cover works. You may need to figure out a way to keep the ice from building up on the cover. Maybe keep some calcium chloride or salt on hand?
