A 2002 28’ Odyssey round above ground pool came with a recently purchased house. I am a newbie to the swimming pool ownership.

Upon removing the winter cover some defects where found.
1- cracked and JB welded wideskimmer bottom
2- small rust area around water return.
Purchased a 8x8 stainless repair panel and a new wide mouth skimmer.
After looking online I am unsure how the caps and top rail disconnect. I am handy but have never done any type of pool repair.

Is anyone on the forum nearby and would be interested in making the repairs?

Or I am in need of someone to walk me through repair
Thanks in advance
David

Welcome to TFP and new pool ownership :)

You should be able to replace the gasket on the return (pic 1) or replace the whole fitting..

I used these to easily take them off if needed but I have not needed to in 8 years.. I also used them on my pump and skimmer

This will easily let you go to hard pipe for everything and that is way better..

I would buy another skimmer and replace that one.. just make sure it is the same size

Thanks for the response.
After much searching realized the Odyssey pool is actually made by Matrix.

You are correct about the gaskets needing replaced . New return fittings and gaskets where included with replacement wide mouth skimmer. I have already purchased a wall repair kit because with the corrosion was unsure I would get the enough clamping force for a good seal on the wall.

I spoke earlier today with 3 local pool companies and they will not install or guarantee a repair panel for fear of liner damage down the road.
Finally printed out a instruction manual so I now understand how the cap and top rail fasten. Now I guess it is time to disassemble and hopefully drill and install the repair panel..🤞

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I had a similar issue last year with a rusty return, what i assume was caused by frost during winter months. The hole was streatched almost oval. My buddy made a similar patch out of aluminum. It lasted great for the duration of last summer. Yesterday, I went under the deck to inspect it before I top up the water level, I I have a leak. I have proceeded to drain an additionl few inches to dry it up well before I remove the rust drip stain and make it water tight again. I think i'm gonna try to just goop it up with clear silicone. I dont dare to remove the patch aluminum and strart up new, in fears that I end up with a worse mess. I'll post some pics later.

Silicone caulk works fine if you don't have water actively leaking. If you do, try JB Water Weld. Stuff works underwater, and will repair an active leak. Amazon has it if you can't find it locally.

repair consisted of cleaning up the rust, then sprayed the wall with flex seal, then glued a metal patch with flex seal glue, let it dry up for 48 hours. Then proceeded to fabricate new gaskets out of rubber. Lubed the gaskets and reinserted the light housing & bulb. Then for good mesure, a good bead of clear silicone along every seam. On the inside of the pool, I glued a vinyl patch with boxer #100 glue and let that dry overnight.
I think I have done all that I could do. toping the water later today. Fingers crossed for no leaks...
