Adding powdered CYA Overflow pool

Hi,

I have finally managed to find a source for powdered CYA here in Turkey instead of having to play games with DiChlor.

I see the usual recommendation is to place the amount in a sock and hang in front of the return.

All of my returns are on the base of the pool as it raises the water level to enable overflow around the edges of the pool.

I was thinking of hanging the sock to a pool noodle and let it just hang in the pool until disolved, another alternative is to do the same but suspend it in the balance tank.

Does anyone have any advice on either suggestion?

Thanks

Ok, didn't get that part the first time. You can do that but will need to squeeze the sock every so often to get the disolved cya into the water since there will not be any turbulence hitting it.

It seems that as an overflow pool has a number of return jets (I have 9 in mine) then there is not enough power in any of the jets to disperse the powder.

As it is the flow that is important it seems that the corresponding location on an overflow pool is actually the return from the overflow channels to the balance tank this is the highest water flow in the system.

I am giving this a trial now and will update if it works.

Just try to find an arrangement where the hanging sock can't touch the side walls while the noodle is floating around. Concentrated CYA can stain your plaster.

The idea of the sock in front of the return is, apart from faster dissolving, that the water flow will keep the sock away from the side wall.

You could tie something (another noodle?) to the noodle to make a cross for example.

Or place your brush / leaf rake telescope pole or just a broom stick across a corner and have the sock hanging from there.
