Adding chlorine to closed and covered pool

My 16 x 32 in-ground pool is closed for the winter with all ports plugged and a sieve type safety cover on it. I want to add some liquid chlorine now while the water is still clear before opening in order to prevent algae and other problems between now and opening.

The Loop-Loc company recommended that I open the corners of the cover and add a gallon of liquid chlorine to each corner of the pool. The problem is that I worry about damaging the vinyl liner by adding the chlorine with no way to circulate the water.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a safe way to do this? I have an aquabot with a dead drive motor and am thinking of adding a couple of chlorine tablets or some granular shock to the filter bag and throwing it in the pool with the pump running.

You could buy or rent a submersible pump to move the water around a little to mix the chlorine. Another suggestion is to get the pump going again but to leave the cover on until you are ready to swim or at least look at the water. I personally use the corner pulled back method with a couple hours of run time in the "in-between" months.

What I did this year was pull the return plugs and restart my pump once the ice had melted and weather had warmed to the 40's 50's during the day.
Added chlorine let pump run. I keep an eye on weather forecast if they predict freezing over night i pull the pump drain plugs and drain the filter. then replace and reprime when it warmed back up. My water is clean and ready for swimming as soon as the weather permits. Bit of extra work but I have opened to a dark green monster more times than I want to remember. My loop loc is still on to keep debris out, I just open the deep end to add what i need then recover. I took the cover off to vacumm the bottom one day it got into the high 50's then replaced it.
Good Luck!
