Have 15 mins of pump run time in between adding muratic acid and chlorine. They do not play well together.

Kimkats, what happens when MA and chlorine are added in one after the other without 15 min in between? I certainly don't combine them but do typically add them in morning before leaving for work. In relatively small amounts (6 oz bleach, 20 oz MA). Seems I've been able to maintain levels.

As noted by a TFP expert on another thread:
Mixing chlorine with muriatic acid (before they get diluted and mixed into the pool) will produce chlorine gas, which is deadly. Also, depending on what form of chlorine you are using it can also cause an explosion.

Time separation varies based on amounts poured, water circulation, etc, but you get the idea. Better safe than sorry.

I give it 15 minutes, then brush the area where I added the first chem vigorously, then add the other chem. I always brush after adding MA just to make sure it doesn't accidentally miss the stream from the return and end up pooling somewhere near where I poured. :)

I always add MA and bleach to a direct return stream in deep end of our pool. Haven't brushed the area after as it's usually a quick routine in morning before work.

A quick brush (3 or 4 passes) under where you poured is good insurance. This link has a cool series of 8 pictures with the acid dyed so it can be seen easily. The series shows what can happen when acid is poured in badly. It's a real eye opener seeing an acid puddle that sits there for 30 minutes. The Myth of Adding Acid
