We had a huge rain storm and I needed to do a little more maintenance than I usually do. FC dipped to 2ppm and pH was around 7. I slammed and later decided to bump the pH up with soda ash (bought by accident earlier this season) but I must've calculated wrong. Thought I was only going to raise a few points but it shot up to 8.

Normally I aerate to raise a couple points, but it's been cooler out and I wanted to get the solar cover on to keep whatever heat I had in the pool.

So anyway... pH 8.0... should I lower it or will it go down on it's own?

FC 7.5-8
TA 70-75
PH 8

Under normal circumstances, a non-trichlor pool should never need soda ash or baking soda. Any pH in the 7s is fine.

pH will (almost) never go down on its own. Use MA for pH control.

Do you have a SpeedStir?
I might just throw the floater with a tab in out for a couple days. Should bring pH down a couple notches.

I don't have a speedstir, never heard of it. Is it worth it?

Thanks for this. I always tried to maintain whatever pool math suggested which is 7.6. usually it does stick around 7.6 anyway, but it's been different this year with using the solar cover, it's been reading lower for some reason.

Solar cover reduces CO2 outgassing. CO2 outgassing is what raises pH.
