Acceptable chlorine level?

I added shock this morning and my chlorine levels are reading 7.0 ppm free chlorine, and 0 combined chlorimides.

CYA reads about 50-60 ppm.

I know that the free chlorine is higher than 7.5% of CYA.

Is the pool safe to enter or is the chlorine level too high?

You can swim in your pool safely if:

1) The FC is above the minimum per the FC/CYA Levels and below the published SLAM level.
2) The water is clear; and
3) You can see the bottom of the deep end.

Many people here with good CYA levels run their pools in the 5-10 FC range all the time - within that range it's well below SLAM therefore safe and sanitary.

The pool looks pretty clear, although I've got no deep end to measure

People often say they can 'see heads or tails on a coin flipped into the water'. Your pool is obviously not super deep, but that's not a terrible way to check. Fun game for any kids around to dive to fetch it too!
