Good afternoon, this is my first post. We are installing an above ground 21’ round pool and we hired a local handyman to excavate the area for the pool. We had a slope of about 16” from highest grade closest to the house to the lowest point toward our rear property line. He ended up over-excavating and taking away several inches of clay and dug too deep. He also sloped all higher areas of the adjacent land so that they drain toward where the pool will be. And because he over dug, we were left with a depression in our yard, lower than the lowest point directly behind it, where our yard drainage runs (toward the back property line and swale). I believe this will cause all run off the sit around the base of the pool and not have a way out to drain away.
I will include sketches of the situation.
We are thinking it’s best to install retaining walls (max height of 2’ approximately 18” from where the pool walls will be) for the three higher sides of the yard and bring the base (where the pool will be going) back up so that we don’t have all drainage running into and sitting in the pool area. I think the best thing to do would be to do 3” lifts of road crush (crusher run), compacted with a 200 pound tamper between lifts.
Can anyone advise me on what some great solutions would be?
Would I need something on top of the compacted crusher run for added smoothing (we are using 3/4” rigid foam sheets for the base of the pool under the liner)?
Please help! All landscapers are busy and booked and aren’t returning calls for advice and quotes on this. My husband and I will be doing this ourselves. Thank you for reading.

I did not use a retaining wall but mine is only 22 inches.. That is exactly how I used the crusher run and it has been perfect for 9 years... I also used 3/4 foam and no issues there also :)
