I’m sorry if this should have been in the above ground section but i took a chance. Will be installing an above ground soon and wanted to know thoughts on doing a sand/cement troweled bottom? I hate those sand bottoms with the footprints and dents etc lol. I’m a concrete finisher by trade so things like that eat at my brain lol. I see a lot of foam board being used but can’t help thinking a good 4-1 sand mix troweled flat and nice and hard would be a durable bottom that would last. Please let me know all your thoughts ! Thanks as always to all the great people here

I think it's a fine idea. Being from that trade, I'm sure you understand the importance of a good level base and can manipulate it for your pool. You probably have all the tools and resources to help make the project more efficient. Curious to see how it turns out and what exactly you end-up doing with materials, mix ratio, etc. Let us know and post pics later. Good luck!

Is this a temporary style pool or a permanent above ground pool?
A permanent (hard sided) above ground pool needs a cove (sand or foam).
A temporary(intex type) pool does not require this.

It’s going to be a permanent pool. I’ve helped do a bunch in my life but of course it’s all different now cause it’s mine lol and I’m overthinking everything. But a huge pet peeve of mine has always been the footprints.

I would put a gorilla pad so you don’t have to worry about the liner rubbing on the concrete. Its not really thick enough to cause footprint issues.
You do need a cove as well so a foam cove is the way to go if you do a concrete mix.
The cove reduces the pressure on the bottom of the wall between the wall & the floor.
As you go through your journey take pics! We love pictures 📸
