I am so thankful to have found this site! SLAM method helped me get rid of an algae problem, which was then followed up by an iron problem. It turns out, my water softener/filtration system was disconnected without my knowledge by the technician who came to install my cable/phone/internet. I didn't notice it until I needed to top off my pool, which immediately turned green. It took me some time to figure out the issue, but after a bit of searching through the forums, I was able to determine that it was, in fact, iron stains. AA treatment turned my green pool blue in less than 24 hours (before & after photos below)!! I've been slowly bringing my chlorine levels back up, and I think I finally have my levels back to normal. Is it normal, after an AA treatment, to lose a lot of chlorine? I noticed that after following PoolMath recommendations for bringing pH & chlorine levels back up, tests showed that my chlorine levels were not rising to the levels they should have been. As I said, I think I'm back to normal levels, it just took a little longer than expected. Thanks again to this great forum!!
P.S. After mentioning this site and what I was able to do to my pool to a friend, I'm going to be helping a friend do the same treatment to remove their iron stains. From novice to "expert" in a matter of weeks!
