above ground intex 18ft pool.Do I need to run the pump all the time as power is not readily available where we have room to put this. TIA

Welcome to TFP!!!You need to run the pump at least 30 minutes prior to testing and 30 minutes after adding any chemicals. You also need to run the pump so that the debris in the water is filtered out. Usually 4-6 hours of pump run time daily is a good place to start.
Sounds like you may need to have a GFCI outlet installed closer to the pool.
