Originally had a sand filter when we bought house. Replaced it with Clearwater II cartridge filter that came with a 1 hp pump, burnt up quickly. Used the 1.5 hp pump that came with pool until this year when we started it up & it started pouring out water. Replaced it with 1.5 hp pump that is recommended pump for our filter. We appear to be losing water from somewhere in the pump / filter system as evidenced by it being soggy underneath the platform & the fact we lose 1/4 inch a day. Need to fill to top skimmer line at least once a week. We plan on plugging return and capping skimmer, pulling cartridge out & putting food dye in filter housing to see if it's the housing.
Assuming it is the housing is about 400$ to replace. Anybody who has this filter has to know it's incredibly difficult to get the lid back on without pinching the o-ring etc. It seems to be an awful design.
We "hard plumbed" the filter to the lines that run to the solar heater so that'd be the argument to replace it with the same. But if we need a new cartridge filter it might be a good time to replace it with something that isn't so cumbersome to work with. Just looking for thoughts
