I was cleaning out the pool cabinet and found a bottle of Bluetrol and Algatrol...is there any place for this in the TFPC method or should I just get rid of it?
Thanks. I thought these were standard brand names- must just be the local pool shop names. Bluetrol is a clarifier- says it restores water sparkle for hazy water. It doesn't seem to list avtive ingredients. Algatrol is an algaecide - active ingredients: poly[oxyethlene (dimethyliminio) ethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene dichloride.
Algatrol is polyquat, which is a good algaecide. More useful as an algae preventer, chlorine is more effective to use during an algae outbreak. Full strength polyquat is 60%. See this post on how polyquat works:
correct,
but I would like to add that you have to start off Algae Free.
If you currently have any alage, then a slam is in order to kill it, and after that, just maintain the FC/CYA.
