A little bit of algae

No. This is a new home/pool for us, so I was curious to see what would happen without sequestrant. We'd rather deal with stains than have to purchase monthly sequestrant.

Why? Is sequesterant that expensive that you'd rather see ugly staining?

I am also having early season algae with pool water temp of 48F. Outside temp reached 77F last Wednesday and I noticed on Friday that pool was starting to look cloudy (now looking somewhat green). My chems are all off. CYA was 40 with SWG. Should I plan my SLAM with the CYA 40 (which would require less bleach) or should I raise the CYA to the recommended level of around 70 for SWG? If I should raise CYA, can I do it concurrently with raising the pool shock level to 28 (based on CYA of 70)?

Follow the SLAM process with the CYA at 40ppm, once you clear it up and the water warms up, then raise the CYA for the SWG.
