Bring pool water to "shock" level and maintained there for 24hr.. A must?

So I'm about to close my pool.. I stupidly didn't bring it to shock level last night.. I just got it cleaned and want to add the bleach to bring the FC up but leaves are filling up in my pool as fast as I can get them out.. How necessary is it to let the bleach in there for 24 hours with the pump running?

If it's a must, I'll drain and put the cover on tomorrow.. Just wanted to get it done today..
