Recently a specialist installing a pH controller for my swimming pool said that he is only using active oxygen tablets once a week to sanitize spas. The question is: Is it possible to use only the MPS as a sanitizing agent since it is used to oxidize what bromine cannot?

MPS is an oxidizer, not a sanitizer in the sense you want it to be.

MPS along with a silver ion system like Nature 2, is an accepted sanitation option in some countries for hot tubs, but not swimming pools, as the warmer temperatures allow them to react fast enough to meet standards for sanitizing. MPS on its own is does not reach this standard though.
Thank you for your input. Please correct me if I am not getting it right. MPS is an oxidizer and a week sanitizer. At higher temperatures acts faster and it might be OK to use it along with Nature2. MPS alone does not kill fast enough to be an effective sanitizer especially if used in swimming pools (lower temperatures). So it is a question of reaction speed. So that pool proff did not provide complete information or himself did not use it correctly.
MPS alone even at hotter temperatures doesn't kill pathogens quickly enough to pass the stringent EPA DIS/TSS-12 test to be able to be called a disinfectant for pools or spas. However, when used in conjunction with silver ions but only at high temperatures (as in spas, not pools), then the combination kills quickly enough to be a disinfectant. What happens is that the silver ions and the MPS react to produce divalent silver ions and sulfate radicals both of which aid in the disinfection process, but even this at lower pool temperatures isn't fast enough and is why Nature2 with MPS is ONLY approved for spas whereas for pools Nature2 has to be used with chlorine.
