First, let me thank everyone in advance - this community has been a great help in learning how to deal with a pool.
Second, I have done my best to self-help in the forums for answers, so I apologize in advance if I ask something that I should have found elsewhere.
Now, to get on with it:
Bought the house 2 years ago, pool was already here - you see the details in my thing below. Pump motor is a SPECK brand, E71-I, model number 256594. It's a 2-speed, 1.0 HP motor (I guess made by Emerson?). I can't find anything on it about the SF/Up/Full/etc ratings, other than on the label it says "HP 1.0 / .12 SPL S.F. RPM 3450/1725".
I'm confident the motor has died - makes a terrible sound when you turn it on (like you threw a wrench into a running car engine), shuts it self off after a few minutes, and when I spray 1/4 can of WD-40 into the end nut it's an oreo-cookie slug that results. Oh, wet end seal started leaking last summer, tried to fix it over the winter but that failed...yeah, I'm pretty sure I need a new motor.
1-A) My pool is NOT BIG - do I really need a 1.0 HP motor? I mean, I currently have one, should I just trust that the previous owner bought that size for a good reason? I have NO gadgets to run, no waterfalls, heaters, etc.
1-B) I have not been able to find anything straight-forward displaying (chart?) pool size to pump-size recommendations. Is 1.0 HP appropriate for a pool my size? (or is that impossible to answer without all the "ratings"?)
2) Should I try to stay with another SPECK brand motor so that it fits with the current basket/wet end? OR do all these motors fit with all the basket/wet ends? Are they all universal?
3) If any brand motor will fit on my current basket/wet end, does anyone know anything about SPECK that would say good/bad idea to stay with them or go another direction?
4) Do I need to be careful and pay attention to make sure I get a motor for an AG pool?
5) I am able to find entire pump units all over the internet, but not motors alone - anyone have an advice on where to look?
THANKS! That should do it for now
