New pool owner-- ....lost....dont know what to do

Hello,

We live in Michigan and are new pool owners. We have a 37000 galllons pool which is gunite in-ground. We went to the pool store today and they said that the pool alkalinity is low which was 41 and
he sold us 50pounds of Balance pack 100 which costed $75 dollars. I am wondering is there was a cheaper solution to increase total alkalinity?

Please help.

Vinita, we use plain baking soda to increase TA. That is what Balance Pack 100 is.
