Keeping the pool closed

Need help figuring out how to keep my pool closed for the summer. We live in north Texas so it will be HOT! The pool has a slow leak somewhere near the top and the cost of refilling it every 2 days is the reason I would like to keep it closed. Therefore we wouldn't be able to run the pump. Should I just let it turn into a swamp and leave the safety cover on it? I'm also worried about mosquitoes and wnv.

I'd be chasing that leak rather than closing that pool!

You can leave the pool winterized, but it will get at least some algae (unless your cover is amazingly light tight).

I assume you are not planning to top off the pool during this time, so go ahead and let it continue to leak until it stops. The culprit should be right at that level, and it may be a simple fix. To avoid algae and mosquitoes pour bleach into the pool and brush well.
