Need Help! 2003 Tiger River Spa "Control Unplugged" Error. Video Included. Read more

Hi All,

I could really use your expert help and advice. I bought a 2003 Tiger River "Bengal" spa. The previous owner knew the spa had a problem and tried to fix it, but was unsuccessful. The control board shows a "control unplugged" error red light. The previous owner thought he could fix the problem by buying a new control display, but it did not fix the problem.

I have created a video of what the board is showing on power up. You can view the video on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/YslStx-jDLw

I hope I haven't just purchased an endless money pit with this spa. Can you please take a look at the video and tell me if you know what is going on?

Thanks in advance!

Have you replaced the ribbon cable between the iQ box and the control panel? I have had to replace one before as mice like to chew on those things.

I noticed in the video the power indicator light in the control panel on the rim of the spa is blinking. It might indicate that the heater high-limit thermostat tripped. Just going by the owners manual in trouble shooting. What they recommend is: Disconnect power for at least thirty seconds to reset heater high limit. If it will not reset, check for clogged filter(s). If tripping continues, call for service.

If you haven't cut the power to the unit yet you might give it a try just to see ??

Have you read these ??

Well, those were pleasant conversations on the links you shared, wow! people are funny.

I had an experience with a bad ribbon cable. Initially I did not think there was any damage as I was expecting something dramatic and easy to see. The cable was damaged but it was very fine cracking of the outer insulation and difficult to find but a technician pointed it out. The new cable worked. I, of course, cannot say that is what your issue is, just pointing out my experience. I have also had to replace the thermistors before, which can trip that high limit error pointed out above. Also the first link posted above had some very fine advice and things that can be checked for other possible errors. I hope you are able to get it fixed! Can always call a technician if you have a local Hot Springs dealer.
