Our pool has two bottom drains and a skimmer. Is it necessary to keep one bottom drain open? Thats the way it was set up, but the skimmer doesnt pull enough. When we close the bottom it pulls just fine. TIA Tina
Can you adjust the valve so that the bottom drain is just a little bit open and have the skimmer still work?
Having the bottom drain on improves your circulation. It isn't critical, not all pools even have a bottom drain. But if you can get it working it is nice to have.
If you normally operate your pool with the drain closed and see no ill effects (cloudiness, or other symptoms of trouble), then you can probably leave it that way, but like Jason said, having the drain in even diminshed function is helpful.
