Excavation question - trying to understand!

Hello experts - I have searched the Internet and can't find an answer. How to determine what the depth of excavation should be for inground gunite pool? They mention leaving space around all sides, but nothing about depth.

Example:

I want the depth of the pool to be 4 to 6 ft within say 18 x 36. If we start at ground level, would the excavation dig actually slope 4 - 6 or do you go deeper to leave space for plumbing and floor of pool (shotcrete, pebble coating, etc.)?

I may be over thinking or not thinking

Overthinking just a bit. The gunite will rest on undisturbed soil on the pool floor so the dig will be about 4-6" or so deeper than the finished pool floor.
