aeration defintion?

what does it mean when the calculator says to aerate the pool. My PH is at 8..says to lower to 7.0-7.2 then aerate? not sure what that means.

It's any process that results in air being mixed with your pool's water. This can be done by a number of ways, such as using a waterfall feature, turning on your spa's air pump (if you have one) or altering the flow of water from your returns to break the surface of the water. For maximum aeration, you want to see lots of bubbles. The idea of using aeration to lower TA is that aeration raises pH; adding acid lowers both pH and TA. Aerating over a period of time while continuing to add acid will lower TA and keep you within a safe pH level.
