Pool overflow drain?

I wonder if this is related to my problem? I had the handle end of my pressure washer in the pool trying to clean some black mold spots from the bottom. Well, I the proceeded to clean everything in sight. At some point, while attempting to clean the "rust" color off the PVC caps etc, I shot water into the "grated" looking PVC cap that I think has something to do with my overflow? Since then, the level drains about 3" lower than it should. I called the pool guy and he said I might have lost the "air lock" in the lines? Normally, when it rains hard the pool will slowly drain underground to the street. It's just way low now :(
They're supposed to be here Friday.
Anything the average dum dum (me) might be able to do?
thanks!
