A quick question: If your CYA is a bit low (20), is it feasible to bump it up by just starting to use dichlor for a bit until it comes back up? Or is it to hard to control the level this way?

Just use the calculator to tell you how much you can add to get the CYA rise you want, and then be sure not to use more.
I have used trichlor tablets to do this.

Sure I typically use 1 pound bags of dichlor to bump up my CYA when it gets a little low, the 1.7 ppm CYA and 1.9 ppm FC boost it gives me allows me to stay within safe FC range. When I see I need to raise my CYA I just lay out X 1pound bags, use them whenever my FC might need a manual boost (pool party, etc.) and when there gone I test CYA again.
