It looks to me like your climate is much too cold even for those trees. The best is good down to about 16 degrees, and RI gets that cold pretty regularly. I'd think it would take a lot of work to keep them alive.
Yikes, Sharp pointy things near the pool! Please rethink your choices, particularly there at the wide spot where you want the Pindo palm. Nasty vicious thorns. I have to say I am glad to hear that one could not survive.
