I typically use 10% Clorox and MA to keep my pool clear. The previous owner left a large bucket of Zappit 73 that I've never used or bothered to inquire about. Can it be used to shock? I currently have no need, but just curious, rather than using several gallons of Clorox. If it can be used, approx. how much can be added to a 10K gallon pool to get it to a 20 level (from 5)?

Also, does DE go bad? He also left a bag of DE that the paper has pretty much disintegrated over time. Not sure how old it is, my guess would be 3-4 years. I've used it once, but wondered if I should buy a new bag or use this up.

I looked it up. It is simply a 73% calcium hypochlorite compound in granular form.

You can use it as long as you keep an eye on your calcium hardness since calcium hypochlorite can raise CH levels very quickly.
