Yuck. Green upon opening

DE = Diatomaceous Earth It's a filter media that looks like baking flour. A small amount added to a sand filter can help the filter capture smaller particles than the sand alone can capture. You can buy it at pool stores, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. It's about $15 for a 25 pound bag in this area. 1 bag would last you a very long time since you don't need to add much to sand filter.

I never got around to buying the De, but we did have clarifier, so I put some in this morning. The water is slooooooooooowly getting a bit more clear, but it's still a bit cloudy. I'm still backwashing like crazy.

FINALLY! The water is clear! I ended up putting in clarifier daily and each day, it would get a little more clear. We also went through a ton of bleach. I'll be sure to take the cover off earlier next year. When I checked it 3 months ago, it was clear. It shocked me when it was green upon opening. Live and learn.
