Once you have borates at the desired level you only need to test when you have had an exchange of water (either by draining and refilling or water dilution from heavy rains) or on closing and opening the pool.

In peak season I originally tested weekly, but found that fairly unnecessary. It kind of depends on splash out and dilution. I suspect you'd be fine testing every second week or even every month. Since both cya and borates stay in the water, it makes sense to test them on the same schedule.
