Hi everyone,
Installed our pool last weekend before i found out about this awesome site.So far after filling with chorinated town water.I added i-3" puck and a half package of shock to the pool.I tested today using the HTH testing kit the results are below.
chlorine =8 or higher
ph = 8.2
ta=30 ppm
th=.6ppm is this correct it took 6 drops divided by 10
I took the cover off to out gas some of the chlor. as this seems too high.But the pool does not have a high chlorine smell.

Updated tests

So after baking in the 95+ temps with the cover off our pool , and adding a little more shock my ph is down to 7.2 and total chlorine is .5 to 1. so i added 32 ozs. of household bleach. Do I need more cya its at around 30.

chlorine smell comes from too little FC and too much CC.

I think you need to multiply by 10 for the th not divide.

If you daily FC consumption seems high then raising the CYA could help.

Also with your CYA, you should never be letting the FC drop below 2 or 3ppm ... see the CYA/chlorine chart in Pool School.
