had a customer that opened his pool this spring and the cyanuric acid level was zero and had a chlorine demand. When pool was closed last fall his cyanuric acid level was75ppm. What happened over the winter?
Under certain circumstances bacteria can convert CYA to ammonia over the offseason. The answer to the extreme chlorine demand is a lengthy shock cycle, until the ammonia is gone.
