does it matter if I use Salt from Walmart @ $6 instead of the salt at the pool store for $14? is there a difference? Also, how much does one 40 lb bag raise the salt level in a 35000 gal pool? It seems like I am having to add a lot of salt this year after installing it last summer.

40 lbs of salt in 35,000 gallons raises salt by 137. It takes quite a few of those bags to get up to 3200.
Water softener salt from WalMart is just fine. Make sure it is 99+% pure salt without any additives or special features and you are fine. It is exactly the same salt as pool salt, just not ground up quite as finely. Since it still dissolves quickly enough, that isn't a problem.
